Call your telecom operator and block the SIM card immediately

Since the OTP number of many of your online banking services comes on the phone, the SIM card should be blocked immediately to prevent thieves from getting this number. You can continue to use your old mobile number with a new SIM card. But the whole process of getting a new SIM card for your old mobile number may take some time. This period is crucial, and thieves may take advantage of it. So block the SIM card immediately.

Block internet and mobile banking

If you lose your mobile phone, immediately call the bank and block online banking services. As the OTP number continues to come in the mobile, there is a possibility of thieves stealing money with this possibility. This is important because it may take some time for your telecom operator to block the SIM.

Visit your bank directly and change the mobile number associated with your bank account

It is advisable not to use the same phone number for banking services after your phone is stolen. Visit your bank directly to change your mobile number and reset all your passwords.

Go to the nearest Aadhaar center and change your mobile number

Thieves may use your Aadhaar authentication to commit fraud or impersonation. So change your mobile number related to Aadhaar.

Deactivate UPI payment from bank accounts linked to your phone number

Do not forget to block UPIs and other mobile wallets associated with mobile numbers after blocking online banking services.

Restrict access to mobile wallets such as Paytm and Google Pay

Contact the app or helpdesk to block access to Paytm, Google Pay and other mobile wallets associated with your phone number.

Reset social media accounts, email, and other online services

When your phone is stolen either uninstall all your email id and social media accounts linked to the stolen mobile number. Or reset your password. This will prevent thieves from sending fake messages to those on your contact list.

Report to the nearest police station

In addition to doing all of the above, it is important to report lost phone information to the nearest police station. The FIR received from the police station is a document to prove that even if the thieves did something illegal with your phone, you did not do it. Banks or wallet companies will need a copy of the FIR in case someone steals money from your bank account, so ask for a copy of the FIR.
